Lesson #1~The Basics

Share on TwitterShare on TumblrSubmit to StumbleUpon

Let’s see my Mr. Man has been so helpful over the past two days helping me get Photoshop loaded and software loaded to add my logo to my pictures..and pretty much anything else I needed to post up the pictures I just shot of a Friends family.  I’m STILL editing them.  Yes, it’s been 3 days and I’m not done yet.  I do have other blogs I post on regularly, a set of four year old twins, house to maintain and “heaven help” maybe grab a shower hear and there. So, I think I could have it completed by tomorrow.  I knew the pictures I loved had editing done on them.  And I knew that was probably 60% of what I loved but what I didn’t know is how much work it is.  I think a full on Photoshop class will be needed.  ‘

I’ve always been a self-help kind of girl but MAN..this is out of control!  Do you have tricks that you use are want to know about ?  Here’s what I’ve learned from this shoot (and a little reminder of the Photography musts):

  1. Shoot in Raw – I’ve always known this but wasn’t sure why.  When you shoot in RAW you have more control on the editing part.  If you over expose a picture,  It’s so easy to change in the RAW format.
  2. Make sure Sunlight is behind the subject.  I love the glow the sun has in ones hair when the light is dancing and flowing through hair.  So beautiful!
  3. Snap, Snap and Snap some more.  If you wait and wait until you think your ready to get “the” shot, you just might miss it.  The best way to ensure this is to have a great Memory Card that will allow you to hold many shots.  For me the SanDisk Extreme 8GB Compact Flash Memory Card would work just perfectly.  Of course there are more out there with higher memory.
  4. Have fun!

Update:  I can’t believe I didn’t know this.  I recently learned that even if you do not shoot in Raw {just using jpeg} you can still open your image in Raw format.  This is HUGE!!!  This will eliminate me needing that 8Gb memory card.   I’m beyond excite.

Road to home

One of the reason I love living in the community we live in is because of the pathways to our home.  It’s so peaceful, clean and just all out blissful.  It’s great to take the kids for a walk to our favorite coffee shop.  Or splash in the water after the sprinklers have been on.  I think it’s the way the light hits the water on the pavements. It just fills me up.

Lovey

I love our time spent in Montana.  One of my favorite moments was watching the kids eat all the great food from their Grandparents.  There’s something so sweet about watching a child happy.  Rather it be eating, sleeping, playing…just about anything that keeps the munchkins happy!  Peanuts ringlets are playful and all her.  My little Lovey!

I had the privilege of being able to photograph a 4 year old Birthday Party at a park. Such pure simpleness and such a joy it was. I picked this picture to post because I love what was captured. The Birthday girl in the foreground and mom in the background. And can you believe it, I actually did this picture on purpose. No freak accident. It was lovely to know what I was actually doing. I took over 150 pictures at this party, while watching 2 kids. Not bad!

~True Love or something like it~

The beginning of my newest love. Photography. It’s not really new to me, it’s just that I have recently become the proud owner of 19 oz. magnificent beauty called Canon Rebel Xsi.  It’s not a  Canon 5D but one day….baby steps.  I have had photography classes before, almost 15 years ago before digital was even out. Let’s just say High School days. Needless to say I can’t remember much so I have enrolled myself in a 8 week crash course to figure out how this whole thing works.

I’m the type of person that learns hands on. If it works, I remember it. If it doesn’t I remember not to do it again. Photography is so personal. Of course there is a right and wrong way to capture images, however if your art is not to speck….than it’s just that “your art”. I wanted to document my growth, expand my vision and watch it all unveil itself!

Enjoy!

Grow, Learn & Teach!

Here at Lenz Love I wanted to create not only a place for me to grow, learn and experience the whole scope of photography on all levels!  I’m a mommy of twins and as you can imagine I snap of ton of pictures.  Ok, I take hundreds each week.  I love their little faces.  Their little frowns, just everything about them.  If you have a “lovey” you enjoy taking pictures of and want to share with other Lenz Lovers alike, click HERE to join my flickr group.

Once we have a handful of group members we will begin to pick out weekly bests!  Truly and I can’t imagine them all not being wonderful but again, we want to grow here and learn.
